XP - Howto disable change task priority

T

Tim Jackson

I am trying to lockdown a computer used by students in a training
environment.

For various reasons we still need to have access to the task manager but
would like to stop the user from using the right click context menu on a
process and changing its priority.

An alternative would be to remove the processes tab from task manager.

Is either possible, maybe with a registry tweak?

TIA.

Have a look at Windows SteadyState, available from:
http://download.microsoft.com
If you are using stand-alone machines that are not joined to a domain.

Alternatively, if these machines are connected to a domain controller,
you would be better off looking into using Group Policy from the domain
controller to lock down aspects of the operating systems used on the
workstations. It would be possible to disable task manager altogether
for student logins, for example, among many other possibilities that go
far beyond what Windows SteadyState can do and I can explain.
