Hello! My friend's problem is this: Sometimes when she is
on the internet, placing shows,orders,using
Hotmail...things happen..Pop ups, she can't type, fonts
are out of whack. Here are some things I have tried for
her:
An extra firewall was installed with her XP firewall.
Spyware programs put on and run..all problems fixed.
Anti-virus(Norton)run. No virus'.
Her temporary internet files and cookies deleted. Her
amount of disk space to use was set to 1192MB. I changed
it to 120MB.
I checked her system also for the latest virus'.Scans
came out okay.
I have no idea what to do next. A friend of mine told me
to update her modem. It is a Lucent win modem. Her ISP is
Earthlink. She will be going to cable soon, but I would
like her to be able to use her computer without all this
hassle. Her computer runs XP Home.20GB of free
space...2.0 GHz processor...any help or suggestions on
this would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks,
Kenneth

Kenneth,

Try installing and running Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-aware and Pest
Patrol. You might also consider running HiJack This! to check for any
hijackers. Disable the System Restore feature when running these virus,
worm and adware checks. Some bugs hide in System Restore and come back as
soon as you reboot your computer after "clearing out" the nasty stuff.
Don't forget to check any removable data storage for problems, as well,
before using them to reinstall data or applications. Post back with
results.

Hi Kevin,
I didn't know that about the system restore. I will try
that. The spyware programs I ran were Spybot S&D, and
Adaware. I have heard of Hijack this! but never tried
it.Thanks for the tips...I will post back with the
results...Kenneth
