XP Home won't boot

Hello,
I've been trying to switch a HD to a new machine but when I try to boot up,
nothing happens after the bar goes across the bottom of the screen (just
before the splash screen). I used an Win2k disk to access Recovery Console
and from there did a fixboot, but still got the same result. I have three
questions:
1) Is it possible to boot to xp home and repair Windows in the same manner
as in xp pro?
2) Will running 'fixmbr' from Recovery Console totally hose the drive?
3) If I were to install XP Pro, is there a way I could import the data files
from the xp home disk?

Thanks in Advance,
Wnz

Kinda. Xp home does not have ASR. You can still do a repair install.

2) Will running 'fixmbr' from Recovery Console totally hose the drive?

possibly, not a wise risk without a backup.

3) If I were to install XP Pro, is there a way I could import the data files

Yes.

I'm not sure which OS you're actually referring to, so here's info that covers
both:

And it may also be that your origonal Winxp Home is an OEM installation in
which case you cannot move it to a new sys anyway

That's actually a licensing issue (i.e., may not rather than cannot) which a few
contributors in this newsgroup have claimed to accomplish successfully,
including re-activation..
