XP Home screen goes black HDD LED lit

This happens intermittantly on brand new hardware.
This was a repair install after previous mobo died.
Everything works fine before screen goes black and HDD LED stays lit.
Rebooting is the only way to get back running again.
The hardware monitor indicates CPU temp is well within range (37C)
Has anyone ever seen this problem before?
Could this be a driver issue?

WXP SP2 I did install new mobo drivers.
Any suggestions will be gratly appreciated!

Well its quite impossible to do just a "repair" on xp when switching boards,
only a new installation will work.

A typical Andrew E. misstatement. At first, when he started posting his
nonsense, I thought he was just ill-informed. But considering how often he's
been corrected on this and his many other misstatements, and by how many
different people, it's clear that he is nothing but a troll who dispenses
misinformation on purpose, with the intent of deliberately screwing up
people's computers.

Andrew E. hits and runs. He posts his nonsense, gets corrected, but never
replies to the correction, either to admit his error or to defend his
position. Most trolls are just annoying, but this one is malicious.

I didn't pay much attention to his reply, as I had already performed the
repair install following the procedure I found at michaelstevenstech.com.
Thus his "quite impossible" remark made no sense whatsoever.
