XP Home Policy

Mike Benz

I need to set a policy on my kids XP Home system to disable his ability to
change the Power settings. I know in XP Pro I can set it via GPEdit but that
feature is not available in XP Home and there is a way via the registry to
set it but I cannot find a Tech Net article on how to do this.

Can someone point me in the right direction for the info? I do not want to
remove his Admin rights as he installs stuff on his PC but I do want to
remove his ability to change the Power Settings as he has a bad habit of
leaving the system on 24/7 but does not contribute to the electric bill and
I want it to go into Standby after 2 hours of inactivity.

Thanks...

Mike...

Hi Mike,

Grab this tool from MVP Doug Knox:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_securityconsole.htm

Load his profile, then under System Security, disable his access to the
Control Panel. You may find a few other settings in here useful as well.
