XP Home Network

Brad

Just bought a new computer with XP Home Edition. Plugged
it into the router. It cannot see the other computers in
the workgroup, one WinME and 1 Win98SE. I ran the wizard
on the XP machine, then ran the wizard on the WinXP CD on
the other machines. The WinME & Win98 still see each
other, but not the XP machine. THE xp machine sees no
other machines. THe odd thing about this is right click
My Network Places on the XP machine and search for the
other machines it will find them, the others will not
find the XP machine. Any assistance will be greatly
appreciated.

Hi, Brad -

Disable the Internet Connection Firewall on that network
connection and you should be okay. Look in Control
Panel --> Network Connections, right-click the network
connection and select 'Properties'. You'll see where to
shut the firewall off.

Good luck -

Ah - we can see the machines but can't browse to them.
We're on the same page now ;-)

Can you check the workgroup name on all three machines
and make sure it's consistent?

Another thing I'd be interested in is whether the Browser
service is running on the XP machine - as you should be
able to see the machines even if they're not in the same
workgroup.

Also, can you check the event log and security log to see
if there's any weirdness going on there?

thanks -
