XP home network problem

I am trying to network two computers at home, both have XP HOME. I first
computer is working fine - it can see the 'shared' files in its directories
and shared files on the second computer. The problem is that the second
computer cannot gain 'access' to the network. It doesn't have 'access' to
the network. I get an error message saying that it does not have
permission. It recognizes that there is a network but it cannot gain
access - even to its own shared directories. I turned off Microsoft
Internet Firewall and it solved the problem for the first computer but not
the second. I am using BlackIce and have the same settings on both
computers. Both computers feed into a Netgear router. Any ideas would be
welcomed.

First, when you ran the network setup wizard, were all firewalls turned off
during setup? Second, during the wizard, the user is asked how this
computer connects to the Internet. An incorrect response can cause the
issue you mentioned. Usually, the "gateway" response is correct and works
for most setups.

If that doesn't resolve the problem, please take your question to the
windowsxp.network_web newsgroup.
