XP home network issue

I've searched long and wide for what I believe should be an easy answer. My
son bought an HP Pavilion desktop. I added it to my LAN. It sees the
Internet, but will not go to some places. I've tried to find a common action
that triggers Internet inaccessibility, but it is not that easy. Some places
(secure and not) are accessible and others are not. I've hit a wall with
support, hardware blaming software, software blaming hardware. What is
really interesting, windows update is one of the options that is
inaccessible. Every other machine runs Win 2K Pro and works fine at each
node in the house. Only the Win XP Home box demonstrates the fore mentioned
problem.

Westel 6100 Modem (set to bridged mode)

Linksys BEFSX41 Router Firewall 4 Port switch W/ VPN Endpoint

If I remove the Linksys router and connect directly via the modem, all is
well. Why is there this dysfunction between the XP Home box and the router
that the Win2K Pro boxes do not have.

Thanks BAR, been there and done that. Not the issue. I think it may be
related to the Linksys Hardwall. However, I have yet to figure it out. I'm
just confused as to why it only is a problem for the XP home box.
