XP Home Logs Off Immediately When Trying to Logon

G

Gary B.

My son's XP PC was working fine yesterday. Today it now
brings up the logon screen whenever he trys to logon.
When clicking the name to logon to an account, the
message "Loading personal settings" is displayed and then
it immediately jumps to logging off. You can't get into
Windows.

I have tried starting in Safe Mode, Safe Mode with
Networking, Safe Mode Command Prompt, Last known good
configuration, etc. The logon screen is brought up in all
cases and the Admin account in Safe Mode does the same
thing with immediately logging off.

I suspect a virus, trojan, worm, etc. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Gary
