XP Home Edition queries

I have Windows 98 first edition and I am switching over to XP Home Edition.
A few queries:

a) Can I use my present MS Word 2000 and Photoshop 6 with XP Home Edition?
A friend says that although Photoshop should work on XP as well as 98 FE,
Word 2000 does have glitches when used with XP Home Edition (it adds letters).

b) my Broadband connection has PCGuard installed. Will this interfere with
the anti-virus, firewall, etc. programs installed in XP? If so, what should
I do?

Thanks.

Curious, I've not heard of any particular problems running Woor 2000 on
WinXP. You will want to make sure to install Word 2000's subsequent
updates and patches.

I've no idea what "PCGuard" might be, but WinXP has no anti-virus
application with which it could possibly interfere. Can't say how it
might interact with WinXCP's firewall; is there any particular reason
you can't ask this question of PCGuard's manufacturer?

That's just plain silly. Office 2000 applications work just fine with
Windows XP.

Check with PCGuard or your broadband provider to see if your vesion is
Winndows 98 specific or if you need an upgrade to work with XP.

Your friend is wrong.

I've never heard of PC Guard.

Windows XP has no anti-virus program that comes with it. Tell us more about
PC Guard and perhaps someone can answer the questions about Firewall, or
etc.
