XP Home & CALs

Ok, I have an XP Home box that has run out of temp licenses. I thought,
incorrectly it seems, that if I changed the computer name and the user name
of the person logging into the TS box that it'd issue a new Temp license.
It seems that is not the case.

Any way around this?

I'm afraid you've misunderstood the TS Licensing requirements and
the function of the Licensing Enhancement hotfix.

XP Home clients need a bought TS CAL (unlike XP Pro clients, which
receive a build-in TS CAL from the TS Licensing Server). Once
you've used a temporary TS CAL on this client, you can't get
another one. All tricks and hacking to force the server to hand
out a new temporary TS CAL are a violation of the EULA.

The Licensing Enhancement hotfix (which is included in SP3, which
I believe you are running already) only adds an expiration date to
permanent TS CALs (and only those TS CALs that are installed on
the LS *after* applying the hotfix or SP3). That won't solve your
situation. Buying a TS CAL is the only legal way to solve it.

Windows XP Home need a TSCAL, like Windows 98, 95, ME or
NT. Windows XP Pro have a built in TSCAL for Windows 2003.
