XP Home Boot loop

Aight heres the deal. I turned on my PC today and it was
running really really slow. So i rebooted, same thing.
Then i turned it off left it for a while came back tot he
same problem.

I decided to try and reinstall windows since the boot time
seemed normal it was just windows that was running slow. I
have Windows XP Home Edition. I put in the CD and start a
reinstallation. The setup gets to 'Installing Windows' and
then the progress bar starts. But about 75% through
completion of the progress bar (Says 34 minutes remain in
setup), my PC reboots. Then it boots back to the setup and
tries to install windows again...same thing happens my PC
reboots at about the same point. I let it do this about 4
or 5 times. I do not see an option for skipping setup and
just booting back to windows again.

So i am stuck in this loop thats pretty annoying and i
dont know how to get out of it. Either by canceling setup
and going back to what it was before and completing this
setup. Any ideas? Thanks alot!

.
remove hardware peripherals, when reboot with xp cd allow
setup to restart, when 39 minutes left is reached press
shift+f10
when command prompt opens
type devmgmt.msc
disable display modem nic and sound drivers and close
device manager in most cases repair will now finish.

if that fails,
to recover data
slave drive or parallel install

then clean install xp.

I really don't know what this other poster has in mind, but it doesn't
make any sense. It sounds rather like you have some failing hardware.
Usually when an operating system fails to install properly, it is
because you have bad hardware. Start with a RAM test - I like Memtest86
from www.memtest86.com - and let the test run for an extended time,
like overnight (unless you get errors immediately). If the RAM is good,
then run a hard drive diagnostic utility, which you can get from the
drive mftr.'s website. If you are uncomfortable doing hardware testing,
take the machine to a good local computer repair shop (not a Best Buy
or CompUSA type of store).
