XP Hangs in "Start>Programs>Item" when right clicking to "send to"

All was well until 4/17. Loaded turbotax on 4/13... completed taxes on
4/14... left for three days... came back on 4/17 and subject problem along
with hangups in IE while trying to use the URL Address drop down box and in
Word when trying to "open file" or to "attach file" or to "save as". It's as
though linkage to the directory system has become un-attached. Also, when
typing in a new URL in the IE Address line, IE hangs or takes no action to
get to the new address. Problem appears to be system wide (hence reason for
asking question here).

I've uninstalled turbotax... turned off Spysweeper... turned off Norton...
with no effect.

Any help would be appreciated.

Some time in there hotfix 908531 was installed, this hotfix has not been
behaving itself on many computers your problems are a classic sign of what
others are having with it. There is a workaround registry fix on line 383
right side here:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
even if you do not have any HP software installed, run the script anyway
their are other causes for this problem that this should fix.
Or
Just uninstall the hotfix in add/remove, a new re-release of 908531 will be
on windows update on the 25th of this month.

I should add... several Windows Updates were loaded on 4/13 as well. They
included: KB911567, KB911562, KB908531, and Windows Genuine Advantage
Validation Tool.

I did see the same recommendation in another thread re: removal of KB908531
but, when I start going through the removal process, a window comes up that
warns that just about every progam on my computer may be affected. Needless
to say this causes considerable pause. Is it the experience of others that
this warning is toothless?

MAP... Thanks. I installed the Kelly-Corners fix and it would appear that at
least the IE6 address bar is working. Now off to check out the rest. Thank
you again.

This has been my experience, but one never knows.

Hotfix KB911562 also changes the way IE handles active X so you will see
different behavior when browsing the net.
