XP going into sleep mode

Windows XP Pro is going into sleep mode, sometimes as soon as it is
opened and other times after 10 minutes or so

I note in control panel/power options that there are only selection
boxes for "Turn off monitor" and "Turn of HD"
The bottom half of the window is bland does not show
"System Standby" or "Hibernation"

It is a new install, virus checked and spyware checked and with little
software loaded

Can anyone help?

What "Power Scheme" is selected? If you choose "Always On", do the options
appear?

XP was re installed from a clean start after some hartware changes,
memory and new HD.

For some odd reason the full power options preferences box opened the
next time I opened the computer I have chosen "always on" now in the
power options and this has made no difference all other settings are
deselected
