XP Games on Vista systems

My daughter is getting ready to deploy to Iraq. She is looking for a laptop
to take with her. We are having a problem deciding on what operating system
to get. She is taking the laptop to play her games on in her down time.
Will her XP games that she has now work on the Vista system?

Yes, personally I've not come across a game that doesn't run on Windows
Vista. There are of course some exceptions and the machines hardware will
also play a roll in how well things run.

What games does she have specifically?

First off, I want to thank your daughter for keeping family safe. I
will keep her in my prayers to come home to you safe.

Even though I haven't had any real troubles installing 99% of my XP
games on Vista, I'd say get a laptop with XP on it at this time
especially since she will be out of the country and more then likely
be surrounded by more people who know XP and can help her if she
needs it.

Even though I am Vista all the way I would have to agree with others to run
xp at this time...There are a few games that are not compatible with Vista
(depending on what she plays)..By the time she gets back and Let us pray
that is soon Vista will be waiting and will be as she Faster stronger and
better prepared for all...Best of luck to her.....

Install XP and all updates before deployment, there will be no advantage
in using Vista but numerous possible issues that will be harder to
resolve with limited networking, which may well be the case in Iraq.

Start soon if you have games on the "Steam" system as downloading may
take some time. Good luck.

I am in the same dilema, I have all my games collection in XP and I am not
sure if I have to spend againg a fortune updating to Vista. How can be sure
my games will work with Vista 64?

Personally, I don't recommend using Vista until MS gets the bugs worked out
more, and judging from the messages here, there are ALOT. Some people have
them, some don't, but if you have to get her a new computer, get XP installed
on it instead. It is still possible at the computer places I checked at.

I am currently having a problem running games on Vista that it seems I am
the only one having this problem (seems to happen to alot of people with
their problem with Vista). There are supposedly ways to run any
non-specifically-Vista programs on Vista, but they seem to have their own
problems as well.

Again, I recommend, DON'T GET VISTA.

If it is true what you say then what is with all these people gushing over
Vista "I'm vista all the way" BS. It seems they are running their xp games
just fine or are they lieing ( maybe microsoft employees ). I just paid what
I consider an exorbitant amount of money for something I have to "wait until
they get the bugs worked out" before I can expect it to run properly. I've
done everything suggested to do by EA and microsoft and still can't get
battlefield 2142 to work.

I had purchased BF 2142, actually for use on another computer, and that
computer is going to be unavailable to me for a while, so I had opportunity
to use some of my games on someone else's Vista OS computer. What kind of
problems are you having with it?

As far as the rest of it, I never recommend someone going out and getting
the "brand new operating system" right off the get-go for this exact reason.
Remember all the problems that (I think it was) Windows 95 had when it first
came out? If you spent all that money on a new OS like that, I am sorry, but
I think you wasted your money. I am not saying that Vista "was shit, is
shit, and will always be shit", because I am willing to admit that down the
road it might turn out to be a good system. I just think that there are a
too large amount of problems with it right now.

As far as the people 'gushing over Vista "I'm vista all the way" BS.', you
will have to ask those people, because I am not one of them. Some games
originally designed for the older versions of Windows OSs (like XP, 98, 2000,
etc.) CAN work just fine with Vista. However, some can't without a lot of
tweaking. And, at least for me, it seems to be all the cool games I want to
work that have this problem. That is if you can even get the tweaking to
work, because a couple of times, I did the recommended things, only to cause
even more problems than I had originally started with.
