xp firewall dropping connections

The xp pro workstations at our site have the built-in
firewall enabled. While users have a session such as
telnet or remote desktop running, it seems that after a
short amount of time the network session to the remote
host is dropped. The remote host still shows a connection
to the XP pro workstation, but the workstation shows that
the connection is gone. When this happens, the network
application seems as though it is still running, but once
a user tries to access the remote host, the application
simply quits unexpectedly. This behavior disappears once
the xp firewall is disabled. We were forced to go with a
third party firewall solution, but am wondering if anyone
else has seen this behavior out of the xp firewall.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Greetings --

The built-in firewall is not designed to be used on internal LAN
connections. The only connection on which you should have ICF enabled
is the connection to the Internet.
