XP file sharing network with Access Denied message

I have a desktop and a laptop. Both are running XP Home. They are connected
on a network with a Linksys ADSL Router. The desktop is hard wired to the
router and the laptop connects via wireless. I log on both machines with
Administrator rights. Both machines appear to be communicating as I have
pinged both and get replies. Both the workgroup names are "Home" I have
enabled file and printer sharing on the main drive C on both machines and on
the folder "My Documents" in both cases. The desktop can see the laptop and
vice versa and I can access the files on the laptop from the desktop.

However, and this is the problem, although the laptop can see the desktop I
cannot access any of its files I get this message:

"\\desktop is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if
you can have access permission. Access denied."

Why is this? If I have enabled file sharing on the desktop what else do I
need to do to access the files on C on the desktop?

I am not a network expert so step by step help would be appreciated.

Many thanks
Tony

Check the XP firewall and/or any third party security software on the
desktop machine. For the XP SP2 firewall:

1. Click Start, click Run, type firewall.cpl, and then click OK.
2. In Windows Firewall, click the Exceptions tab. Check the box for File and
Printer Sharing.

Tony,

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, or other security component. There are several
other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your problem. Read this
article with an open mind.

Is Guest Enabled, for network use, on both computers?

For more direct help, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely (download browstat!):

Thanks guys there's a lot to try out there it'll take me some time so I will
repost if I get any other problems. I've now read other posts and this seems
to be a common problem with many users of XP
Thanks
