XP=Fast - Browsers Slow?

L

lostatwitsend

my pc is moving much like a baby slug. So after downloading "Accelerators"
and the like. I have seen NOTHING that will improve speed... just a bunch of
3rd party programs that dont work. So after spending hundreds of dollars I
decided to stop being lazy and actually figure this out.

first thing I did was run a defrag and scan.(I think it was 60% fragmented)
then deleted all the not used programs from control panel.
then a registry clean up.

now these 3 things have really made my pc MOVE.
however.
my browser(s)
IE and firefox... /sigh

I click on either and they MIGHT load up in 3-5 minutes.
my home screen in google.com... so there isnt any load there.

that is my confusion. I wonder if I have a virus or spyware or malware or
something but all the scans I do; show nothing out of the ordinary.

PLEASE HELP

Bear in mind that the damage done by malware may still exist even when the
malware has been eradicated.

It might be worth running LSPFIX to see if any impostors have found their
way into the IP stack.

Though, rather than spending that amount on what was probably snake-oil you
would have been better spending it on a Windows XP CD and reinstalling clean.

ok well I have deleted / uninstalled a lot of them... but the list infront of
me says I have tried these:
registry easy
abexo
uniblue (suit)
registryboost
tweaker
spyeraser
avg
webroot(suit)
pcdoctor
spyware doct 6
adaware
spywareblaster
registry mechanic.

so as you can see.... these things dont seem to help.
like I said... my pc is WICKED fast now... it is just my browsers that are a
joke.

I hope that list helps... btw I only have avg / abexo / registry easy and
uniblue(suit) installed

All "registry" tools can cause more problems with most XP and are
dangerous.

If your browsers are slow, the main cause is in the TCP/IP protocol
stack. This network protocol can be affected by various "spywares"
and security protection systems. I would first uninstall these
"tools" and then concentrate on fixing your network.

Do the browsers have any 3rd party toolbars installed? I have had
intermittent performance problems on different machines with both the Yahoo
and Google toolbars. I think the Yahoo TB was trying to download news, and
the G TB may have been trying to update itself. Anyway, uninstalling them
fixed the perf probs .. then I reinstalled them later with no lingering
issues.

ok... will do... I am at work atm... but when I get home I will unistall them
ALL.
however... my pc used to be on a home network.
but all the other pcs have gone off to college or moved out. so I will also
take the router out and just then no more network.^^

(lol then I will try to get back here)
