Robert

After downloading new patches from microsoft for XP, I am
getting a registry error 0x80070002. The information on
this site does not help to correct the problem, and I am
dead in the water. I am only able to work in safe mode in
DOS. If antone knows a way around this error, please
contact me.

Your best bet is to carry out a repair of Windows XP, this undoes a lot of
the patches that are installed. Make sure you have your bios set to boot the
computer from the cd drive (press delete a few times as soon as you switch
the computer on to enter bios) then reboot with the XP CD in the drive. When
it says press any key to boot from CD, do this. When given the option,
select install XP (not repair using the recovery console). XP will detect
your previous installation and ask whether you want to repair it or install
a new version. Press 'R' to repair and then let it do its stuff! This should
fix most windows based problems. If this doesn't work, re-post and I'll have
another think,

Sam
