XP Edition

I am about to download the patch for the directx on my
pc. Your locations for downloading the patches reference
Directx 8.1 (my version) for Windows XP 32-bit Edition or
Windows XP 64-bit Edition locations as choices for the
download. How do I determine which edition I have, 32-bit
or 64-bit?

My properties page says "Operating System: Microsoft
Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600)
(2600.xpclnt_qfe.010827-1803)"

I also noted that I can install Directx 9.0b under XP.
Should I do this at all? Then do I have to download a
patch?

Thank you in advance for your help!
Doug

Had you STFW you'd have been able to answer your own question. Please see

You have the 32-bit edition. Only XP Professional, not Home, comes in both versions. Moreover, even if you had XP Professional, anybody who has to ask the question is running the 32-bit version. The 64-bit version requires special hardware. It and the hardware have come down in price, but are still substantially more expensive than the standard consumer PCs you see around. Very few home users are using it.
