XP drive swap

I bought a new desktop for my main use at the house, surplussing the 3
year old XP Pro desktop.

I intend to upgrade the drive in the older machine to a larger drive
using the Acronis product and then give the computer to my grandson for
his internet and school work.

I want to keep only XP Pro and Office 2003 and get rid of all other
applications that I have accumulated over the years. What I don't want
to do start over by installing XP Pro and Office from the distribution
CD's and then adding a million updates.

Is there any way to back up just the Operation system (and Office) in
such a way that I could restore it by itself?

TIA

Then you've just contradicted yourself.

No.

It isn't that hard to just load XP and Office.
Windows Automatic Update will do is thing by itself, if you set it. So
that's no work on your part.

Doing the above would give you a nice clean new system with no garbage.
Probably the best way around. Especially if you put in a new HD to
boot. If you are going to reload, why copy with Acronis?

Is your plan to give your grandson the old computer along with the
present copy of Windows XP and Office 2003, but on a larger hard
drive? If so, a good way to start would be to clone the old hard
drive on to the new one. Swap out the old hard drive, install the
hard drive that was cloned. Make sure that jumper settings, etc., are
OK. The old computer should start up with the new hard drive. Next,
clean out all the garbage you do not want to give to your grandson.
Defrag the hard drive.
