XP desktop & quick launch (?)

Whenever I send a link to the desktop, one is also put on the quicklink (I
think that's what it's called). [Or where desktop clicks require two clicks
the "quicklink" only requires one click.] My question is how to I only put
the link on the desktop? When I delete a link from desktop or quicklink, it
is deleted in both places also.

Thanks.

Where are you sending these shortcuts from? Some programs - while being
installed will ask you if you want a shortcut placed on the desktop and/or
quick launch.

If you are using Sendto - Desktop
That is where it should be being sent, period. If not then you are using a
third party program, etc.

Thanks for reply.

Doesn't matter where I send from. It puts the shortcut on the desktop and
the quicklaunch. I use Firefox, but same happens from IE7. Same thing when
I send link to desktop from windows explorer. [I am referring to the
quicklaunch as not the bottom right side of taskbar.]

You must have the Desktop Toolbar selected, which is the only one that
reflects what's on the Desktop. Someone recently posted just how you
hide some items on that toolbar, but I couldn't find it. You might try
a Google Groups search for "desktop toolbar" "hide icons"

http://groups.google.com/groups/search?q="hide+icons"+"desktop+toolbar"&qt_s=Search

I had suggested that the OP create their own toolbar and drag shortcuts
to it since the Desktop toolbar seems to be a reflection (or just a
display) of the Desktop folder contents.
