xp desktop icons missing or partially blacked out?

All of a sudden, a few of my desktop icons are missing
(the name is there, the icon is missing) and a few of
them have the lower right 1/4 blacked out in a square
shape. The programs seem to open ok when I double-click
the icon (or where it should be). We had a 10 second
power loss yesterday. It seems to have happened after
that.????

Hi,

Here's the workaround:
1. Change the screen resolution to 800x600 or some other resolution and the
color resolution to 32K colors
2. Reboot the system
3. The icons should now be ok
4. Change the resolution back to the old screen resolution
