XP Desktop Fix

Ken Gash

I suddenly found that I have a broad white band on the left of my
desktop in XP which I cannot seem to get rid of. It contains "Folder
Tasks", "Other Places" and "Details" drop down menus. I got it after
right-clicking on the Desktop and unchecking Show Desktop Icons under
Arrange Icons....

I would like any help in restoring my desktop to normal.

Thanks,
Ken Gash

Thanks for your suggestion, but I already tried that among other things
with the desktop properties. I finally used System Restore to go back
to a checkpoint created yesterday and the desktop is back to normal. I
still don't know what caused the problem or how to fix it if I could not
restore the system.

Thanks again,
Ken

The change for not showing desktop icons takes a few seconds to take place.
It also takes a while to reverse. Perhaps, you didn't wait long enough??
Glad you got it back.

The white band is the Common Tasks Bar. Here is the fix, if this happens
again.

Remove Common Tasks from the Desktop:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/RemoveCommonTasksFromDesktop.reg

Download the .reg fix and right-click it, choose Merge. The common tasks
will be removed from desktop.
