XP can't print on 98SE server

I have a 98SE computer and an XP pro computer connected with a router
to share my internet connection. Both computers can use the internet.
Both computers can also see each other's shared folders etc. I have a
Samsung ML1250 printer connected to the 98SE box and it will print
properly from there. I have the XP box set up to use the network
printer attached to the 98SE computer. The problem is, the XP box
won't print. When I try to print from the XP computer, the printer
wakes up from it's powered down state, the 'data' light flashes but it
never does print anything. The printer setup us fully available to the
XP computer but nothing I try will get it to print a test page or any
other documant on the network printer attached to the 98SE box.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? If the printer wasn't visible
to the XP box or something, I might have some ideas. The thing is, all
seems to be correct right up until the paper should feen into the
network printer.

My guess is that the WinXP drivers aren't installed. Try connecting
the printer directly to the XP machine and printing from there.

I hooked up the printer to the XP box and installed the drivers
again. It prints fine as the local printer.

I thought that it might have been a driver issue as well even though
I had installed XP drivers in the XP box.

I still can't print to the 98SE box when the printer is attached
there. It seems very strange to me that the printer will come out of
it's powered down state, accept data and then just stop when I try to
print from the XP box.

If it did nothing, I would have more to go on ;-)

Have you tried un-installing and re-installing the printer on XP Pro?

Yes I tried that. As a matter of fact, when I first started trying
to network these computers, there was NO printer at all on the XP box
as I never had a need to print from it.

I have discovered something else strange. If I am on the XP box and
I select the networked 98SE printer and have it print to file, a file
is created. The strange thing is that when I take that '.prn' file
to the 98SE computer and try to print it, the same behavious happens.
The printer wakes up and recieves some data and then stops without
finishing the print job.

I have also installed the same printer as a local printer on the XP
box. If I 'print to file' using that printer instead of the
networked one, the '.prn' file will print correctly when taken to the
98SE box.

I have no clue what to try next. The good thing is that I can get
'print to file' to work properly. At least I can print something I
have on the XP box. Not as slick as a direct print, but I might have
to live with it.

I was thinking it must be some sort of driver issue as everything
else worked. I uninstalled all the printers from both computers and
started from scratch. I reinstalled the printers againon both
computers. The XP box can now print on the printer attached to the
98SE box.

Thank you to Zadok and Steve W for steering be in the right
direction.
