XP Camera wizard doesn't work

System: XP Pro, Nikon digital camera and software.

A friend has bought a new digital camera, installed the Nikon software and
is up and running. Too late she has realised that when she plugs the camera
into the USB port the Nikon picture transfer program starts instead of the
XP photo transfer wizard.

The Nikon software does not have the functionality which the SP photo
transfer does and she wants to use the built in XP wizard as the default
setting.

She has removed the Nikon softwar and now when the camera is plugged in, XP
considers it to be an additional drive and pops up Winmdows Explorer with
the camera as a drive. At no time is she given an option regarding what she
might like to do, such as copy the files, print the photos etc which
normally comes with the wizard..

The question is, how do we get the photo transfer wizard to function instead
of Window's explorer?

Try going to Device Manager and removing or uninstalling the USB
Controllers. Reboot and let WinXP reload them.
Have the camera disconnected from the system.
