XP BIG-TIME SCREW-UP

help! Changed m/bd, using same CPU, hdd, graphics card, memory - disaster,
despite claims that all would be well. Whatever I tried, could not get
floippy to work (BIOS error 40) nor could I get XP to load from hdd. Tried
@repair@ installation via CD - all I got was ever-diminishing circles, could
not get to hdd.

Reverted to existing m/bd - still error 40 on floppy (different BIOS)
switched both floppy and cable - same result. Still can't get hdd to boot.
Again, tried @repair@ installation - loads up various files, reboots, won't
go to hdd. Tried @repair@ og boot sector via MS tools. It reported a
non-standard boot sector (was working fine, earlier today) - repaired it.
Can @see@ the drive/files/folders, just can't get it to boot.

Desperation - did clean installation on another (slave) hdd - since I cannot
yet access my real e_mail am using the help console. New installation is
showing the @old@ hdd (now a slave) with al its contents.

Have no idea what I've done, or how - I want my old hdd back, with working
system. I have the same OS loaded on the one pc, one valid but ubusable, the
other as yet unregistered. As swtated, @repair@ installation just does not
work, and I'm not about to lose all my data (back-up WAS oin this hdd, before
formatting to re-load XP)

Need my hand holding, please!

Checked cables on floppy drive for orientation and good tight connections?
If this is floppy drive is known to be good (works on another system),
there may be a problem with the floppy drive controller on the new board.
