xp backup restore

I reloaded xp and installed nt backup.I have backup doc and setting on a
external hard drive.I run the backup restore. It says restore complete but no
restore has taken place.How do I get the backup on hard drive to restore the
files on computer?

Based on my Windows 2000 NTBackup experience:

When you start NTBackup and select Restore tab, you need to choose "Restore
files to:" and select either: Original location, or: Alternate location
[Browse...], or: Single folder [Browse...].
Assuming that you selected to restore to C:\Documents and Settings , the
only possible reason (in my view) for any failure to restore, may be lack of
permissions for that target folder (or subfolders belonging to other users).
I personally use FAT32 so I am not well informed on how to obtain
permissions for NTFS folders/partitions.
