XP Backup function problem

Charles

When I try to use the XP backup function, after I accept
Microsoft's file name for my backup, I get a message
telling me "The backup name could not be used. (XP's .bkf
backup name) Please ensure it is a valid path, and that
you have sufficient access."
What am I doing wrong? How can I successfully use my XP's
backup feature? Thanks!

Usually, this is the message received when trying to backup directly to CD.
This function is only supported if packet writing software such as Roxio's
Easy CD or Media Creator with the Direct CD or Drag to Disk component is
installed or Nero with its InCD component is installed.

Without such third party software installed, you can backup to your hard
drive and then copy the file to CD.

If this does not relate to your problem, please post back.

Try to be a little more specific rather than cryptic when asking a question.
I assume you can't find Windows Backup.

If you have a retail version of XP Home Edition, backup is not a part of the
default installation. Go to the valueadd\msft\ntbackup folder on the XP
Home Edition cd and
install ntbackup manually by double clicking the file.

If you have some customized OEM version or no CD at all, you can download
ntbackup, the application used in XP for backup from the following site:

Thanks very much

XP's Backup program is not designed for use with CD/DVD. Point the backup
file location to a hard drive or tape drive and you'll be fine. If you wish
to use CD then check here
