XP and XP Pro networking problem

We have 4 computers at my business. 2 runing windows98se 1xp 1xppro all on a
network. The xppro was orig upgraded from 95-98se-2000pro to xppro. all of
the units are talking to each other except the xp to xppro. The xppro has all
our office web site and printer and things of that nature. some where along
the line the xppro computers life span it at one time had a password
installed to limit access. When I set up the network I had a hellof a time
getting the 98se machines to get access without needing a password. But the
xp machine is new and every time the computer is shut down and restarted the
only way I can gain access to the shared files or printer on the xppro is I
have to go into the network click on that computer and the password box comes
up and I put in the computers name and it gives me access. What do I have to
do to get rid of this? Ive tried everything to give the xp machine access
rights to the pro machine but I may have missed something. Also would it
make a difference if my network properties (ie) in the network configuration
were incorrect? What is the proper way to set up these 2 machines without all
the hastle? Please help!

George,

Do you need the "password" to limit access, or can you have all computers
connected, and equally accessible to each other? If the latter, you can use
Guest access on all computers.

For information on Guest access under Windows XP:

For information on file sharing in older Windows 98 for instance:

You should also be aware of the browser subsystem, and how it works with Windows
98 and XP on the LAN together:
