XP and Office 2003 issue

N

news.microsoft.com

Just got two computers. both running XP and Office 2003. Both computers are
connected to a netgear router and there is a print server attached to the
netgear router as well.

When selecting the page setup option in Word, it takes anywhere from 10 to
15 seconds to open the dialog box, when the default printer is one of the
printers connected to the print server.

So..

1. Why does it take so long
2. Is there any way to disable word trying to access the printer

I know 10 to 15 seconds may not seem like a long time to most people, it is
annoying.

Static IP for the printer will speed that up. It's in the TCP/IP properties
of printer. Discover what DHCP settings you have from the router A command
prompt command of IPCONFIG shows you the "Default Gateway" This will open
the router with it's ip (if router=192.168.0.1, http://192.168.0.1 opens
the router)
