antivirus but problem remains. Any ideas?

Well, first we need to identify which process is eating up
your CPU. Sort your task list processes tab by CPU and
see which process(es) are eating it.

I was getting same problem on a Matrix. Finally got it
stopped by un-installing hotfix 819696 ,Sp2. A work-
around was to close CISVC-EXE which only showed 2% usage
with system showing 98%, total100%. Closing CISVC
brought usage to 1% or 0%. idle 99% 0r 100%.Don't know
this is happening. My Dell has the hotfix and does't have
that problem. Any advice? Frank

I had exactly the same problem. Try adware removal
go to www.lavasoft.com and d/l adware
then disable NAV and restart computer, after loadup,
disable NAV and try IE, if faster, then you may need to
remove NAV(contrl panel, remove/add programs) and then
reinstall NAV , it should work because my computer is now
super fast!!! leave message if above doesnt work
