Hi,

I have a xml document that i want Excel 2000 to open. I'm having
difficulties reading the file in, is there a utility/parser built in to
this version of excel?....or will i need to use a 3rd party tool?

thanks.

I vaguely remember something about an XML parser being available for
download on the MicroSoft website, but other than that I don't know.

Excel isn't an ETL tool; it is a crutch-- for babies.

Grow some balls and use a database.

Access Data Projects; you can import you xml in about a hundred
different ways.

I've had enough of your negativity, Aaron. If you can't find something
constructive to add to the threads in this NG, then I suggest you stick to
Access NGs.

I have to admit, I found your contretemps with Harlan amusing a while back
(mostly because of Harlan's ability to disprove most of what you said, and
your inability to do the same to Harlan), but once you descended into the
obscenities, it ceased to be amusing.

I like Excel, but I'm quite prepared to admit that Access is much better for
certain tasks. You obviously like Access, but you don't seem to be able to
accept that it isn't the only program of any worth in the universe.

In order to allow you to redeem yourself, or at least explain WHY you can't
accept that there are things that Excel is better than Access for, I'm going
to leave another day or two before I set my NG reader to ditch any messages
from you.

Excel isn't better than Access at ANYTHING.

Excel might have a few more functions are are built in

www.fmsinc.com has an addin called Access Statistics that can do
anything that Excel can do; for the most part.

but of course; yuo don't need to have 100 different copies of these
formulas; once on each desktop.

and it's easier, more scalable, easier to manage-- if you use SQL
Statements to do these functions

domain aggregate functions in Access are vastly superior to Excel in
every regard.
and then of course we have.. uh SUBQUERIES.

using Access Data Projects; i can have a single instance of a function;
instead of 1,000 different copies.

it's easier to manage.

sorry for the profanity; im just sick and ****ing tired of never
finding enough db people and always having too many spreadsheets to
deal with.

Excel is for babies and retards.

and Harlan never proved anything to me.

he proved that he's a jack ass and a one-trick pony.

he proved that he can spawn Excel macro viruses- from where im
standing; with extensive experience in the network security / proxy log
analysis market-- that i've first hand seen 10,000 different variants
of Excel viruses.

and NOTHING IN ACCESS; IN THE WILD.

I worked for a company once that shipped a XLS that was infected; they
handed out the CD at a trade show.

it wasn't a public company.. but stilll those kinda risks aren't
acceptable
Excel is a waste of time, a threat and a pain in the ASS.

Lose the training wheels; you idiots are stuck in the first grade of
the technology ladder
