Without extensive VB(A) coding, how do I do a Mail Merge using XML?

The question is strange, because I am trying for the MOS Word Expert level
and twice I have encountered this darn question, and none of the study guides
discusses this

The test thankfully does not seem to go deeply in either XML or VBA, so I am
obviously missing something

As best I recall, the test sets up the doc and then the XML file to use as
the db for the merge

I suspect I must do a merge using the XML data, but I do not have a schema
to use to create a db of addresses to practice on, and as I said, I cannot
find this discussed unless I go deeply into VBA
