Xmas Prices on 754 hysterical

I've been keeping an eye on the prices of 754 chips at newegg. They
had a good deal around thanksgiving on the 3700 + a motherboard for
about $200. Since then they've dropped the freebie motherboard and
upped the price of the 3700 to about $295. Talk about a sorry ****ing
deal. You're better off buying a whole new motherboard and a cheaper
cpu. There's even the smaller core mobile cpu but they want about $360
for that.

Sorry AMD, no 754 sale this week.

Sorry AMD, no 754 sale this week.

The current 3700+ is a socket 939 part, the old 754 pin part is history.
The reason they were offering such a good deal on the 754pin 3700+ is that
they were clearing out a soon to be obsolete part. The only 754s
that they are selling now are Semprons and lower performance A64s.
Sometime next year AMD is going to introduce socket M2 which will obsolete
the 939 and 940 pin parts. When that happens you'll see big discounts on
the existing stock of 939 pin A64s. If you are looking for a bargain
that's the time to buy. However as with any clearance sale it's not going
to last long, so when you see the price plunge grab them when you can.

They still have them (OEM). But they're $295 now. Funny thing is
they're selling the 2.2Ghz 3400 for $10 more right below it. Yeah the
highly sought after cult classic.

Like I said, you're much better off buying a landparty and a sempron64
and overclock it. There's not as much improvement with bigger caches
with the on board memory controller except in AMD's opinion of the
chip performance speed for marketing purposes.

There's both a 754 and a 939 3700+. Both are still available according to
the AMD product pricing, and amdcomare.com.

Where are you getting this info? It doesn't match AMD's.

As long as AMD still sells 939 and 940 cpu's, which they will for a while,
I wouldn't quite call it obsolete, just last generation. By you're way of
thinking I've been obsolete for a long time and I don't like that.:)
