XL Symbols

In WORD I can replace a keyboard symbol with another of
my choice and the new symbol. such as a check mark,
remains permanently at the chosen key.

In XL it is possible to place a non-keyboard symbol into
a cell, but the operation must be carried out for each
cell.

Is there a way to create a keyboard shortcut so my chosen
symbol can be used permanently.

MSword gives the oppotunity to replace......with........
but XL does not offer this facility.

You can record a macro while entering a symbol using Alt + the numpad
and maybe also format the cell, attach a keyboard shortcut to it (you can
assign a shortcut when
you record the macro)
