X-cleaner: Does it carry problems?

M

Morgan Ohlson

Yesterday I ran X-cleaner.

Just prior to that I hade raised the alarm level for the firewall.

First X-cleaner called out to Google according to the alarm.

After that an answer came from otside. The firewall ranked that call as a
major intrusion threat. "Someone" asked for the browser.

Was the problem caused by X-cleaner... or could some other malware steal the
ID ...or is X-cleaner it self smeard with some attacking virus ????

I don't see x-cleaner on the list of rogue spyware "removers" here:

http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#products

Nor do see it listed as a trusted and recommended one.

Do you really think the proper time to ask such a question is "after"
you have run the program?

I'm not saying it is good or bad because I don't know about it, but
generally speaking it is best to have questions like this answered prior
to even considering executing any new program you obtain.

Learning safe computing practices will serve you better in the long run
than any software "solution" will.

You mean that I should ave known the function /result allready before the
action?

....sorry, I'm not Harry Potter.

If you aren't Harry P., consider google. IOW, try to do some
work on your own. ;)

In re is X-Cleaner smeared w/ some virus:
PC World mag. did a review of X-Cleaner this summer. Look it up,
decide for yourself.

Sorry Morgan, but I don't know and a search of PC World gave me this:

so I guess we'll have to remain as ignorant as the other posters appear
to be. ;-)

I did find this useless blurb from way back in 2002 FWIW:

X-Cleaner Anti-SpyWare and Trace Cleaner v2.0

Do you have that creepy feeling that someone is watching you? No? Well,
if you do start to feel pangs of paranoia, Xcleaner is a program for
you. It removes traces of documents you've opened and detects and
removes spy software from your computer. The program finds and removes
adult content from your computer, and permanently erases files using a
"shredder." Besides covering your tracks and cleaning up after your
disgusting behavior, Xcleaner also can stop password theft and detect
and remove dozens of commonly used spyware programs. Download

LOL!

:blush:D ...ohh, well... Actually never considered it's "clean functions"
although they dominate the prog.

X-cleaner has taken viruses the others didn't.

/.../
Xcleaner also can stop password theft

Can that really be blocked specially?
and detect
and remove dozens of commonly used spyware programs.
