x box dill incompatible

GREATINGS, I WILL TRY TO EXPLAIN. 1ST MY COMPUTER WAS RUNNING FINE, THEN MY
WIFE LOADED A PROGRAM FROM INTUIT FOR TAX FILEING WHICH WE PAID FOR. THE
COMPUTER SLOWED DOWN, I THOUGHT I HAD A BUG BUT NONE OF MY SCANS SHOWED
ANYTHING. I DOWNLOADED BATA VIRUS SCAN FROM MICROSOLT AND RAN A SCAN. IT
FOUND AN X BOX FILE THAT IT SAID WAS NOT MICROSOFT'S,
SYSTEM32\LEGITCHECKCONTROL.DILL. BATA VIRUS CAN BLOCK THESE FILES AND I DID.
THE COMPUTER RAN LIKE A RACE HORSE BUT THE TAX PROGRAM WOULD NOT OPEN WITH
THE DILL BLOCKED. WHEN I RAN A FILE AND FOLDER SERACH UNDER SYSTEM 32 IT
FOUND THE FILE AND SAID IT WAS A MICROSOFT FILE. MY QUESTION-- IS IT
MICROSOLF'S DILL AND IF SO WHY DID IT SLOW DOWN MY COMPUTER.
BACKGROUND:
IT IS TAX SEASON AND I CAN NOT LEAVE THIS DILL BLOCKED, MY WIFE IS A
BOOKKEEPER BUT NOT GOOD WITH VIRUS PROGRAMS. I AM RUNNING XP SP2 WITH ALL
UPDATES, 1/2 GIG ON RAM AND A 533 FSB. ANY SUGGESTION WOULD HELP.

1. Typing in all caps is considered shouting and rude. Many people will
not respond to a post written this way, and all caps makes it very hard
to read. Don't do it any more.

2. Microsoft does not provide any antivirus software. The beta
AntiSpyware program (and "beta" means "not finished" - it is still in
the bug-checking phase) is to remove non-viral malware. You *must* have
a current version (not earlier than 2004) full-featured antivirus
installed on your computer with an up-to-date-subscription and updated
virus definitions. If you do not have one, get one immediately. See the
next item about running TrendMicro's Sysclean.

3. If you do not have av installed, first run Sysclean (after deleting
all Temporary and Temporary Internet Files) as follows:

TrendMicro's Sysclean is an extensive antivirus tool which has the
advantage of not needing to be installed. It requires two parts - the
scanning engine and the virus pattern files. Delete all Temporary and
Temporary Internet Files before running the program.

a. Create a new folder on your Desktop or the C: drive named something
useful like "Sysclean".
b. Go here and download the two parts of the program to that folder:

http://www.trendmicro.com/download/pattern.asp - virus pattern files

The pattern files will be zipped - extract them with your unzipper (like
WinZip) or if you have XP, you can just open the folder. You need to
put the extracted files in the Sysclean folder you made.

c. Restart your computer in Safe Mode. Get into Safe Mode by repeatedly
tapping the F8 key as the computer is starting up to get to the proper
menu.
d. Go to the Sysclean folder you made and double-click on sysclean.com.
Start the scan. After the scan is finished, look at the log. You may
need to make a note of where any viruses were found if they were not
able to be removed so you can manually delete them.

Now get and install a full-featured av, update it, and run a thorough
scan in Safe Mode.

4. It sounds like that is a legitimate .dll from your tax program. Allow
it to run *after* doing your virus scan(s).

5. Hire a local professional to come and check out your machine to
ensure it is 100% protected. The pro can also give you some training on
security and best computer practices so you will feel more comfortable
and in control using your machine. I am not saying this to hurt your
feelings, just being practical.

You responded, caps or otherwise. I have Macafee virus scan and firewall, Win
Protrol and Adwawe. None of the programs show x box files except microsoft
Beta. I did a search on microsoft and it does not reconize legitcheck.dill.

Here's what I find confusing about your post - you say you have an "XBox
file" and then that blocking the "legitcheck.dill" (sic) causes your
tax program not to run. Here are the strange things:

1. You should have no XBox files on your computer. XBox is a gaming
console and has nothing to do with your computer. How did you determine
that the particular file belongs to XBox?

2. There are no legitimate files with the extension ".dill". Are you
mistyping ".dll"?

I still think you should have your computer checked out by a
professional, based upon your posts. If you don't wish to do that, then
contact your tax program's tech support and ask them if the file in
question belongs to their program.
