Wrong Wireless Network

I have the following:
IBM T40 w/ Centrino Processor
XP Professional

I use my computer with a netgear MR814 wireless router
that worked fine till a month ago.

In the last month somebody near me setup another wireless
network that is not WEP enabled. now half the time I try
to connect I keep getting forced to connect through this
unsecure network.

I have tried the following:
1) setting both up but my network at the top of the
preferred list
2) connecting to my network when it says there are
multiple networks to choose from (it does not always work)
3) trying to setup the other network with WEP so that it
does not recognize it.

All of the above fail. A lot of times (like now) I have to
resort to using my desktop to connect.

Is there some way to force XP to always connect to only
the one network I specify or even better to not have it
search for the ssid's of other networks.

thanks for your help.

1. remove the other SSID from the list of preferred networks
2. uncheck to automatically connect to non preferred networks in advanced
3. be sure you are broadcasting your SSID
4. be sure YOU are using WEP
5. to avoid interference, change the channel on YOUR router (and also don't
use the default SSID name it ships with)
