Wrong time zone displayed when executing NET TIME

Hi,

Hopefully someone will be able to help me out.... It's the first time I see
this....

A user of mine has the wrong time set on her computer... easy right?? Change
the time and done! nope... I checked the time zone and it is correct
(GMT-05:00 Eastern US and Canada) in Windows... but when I run the command
net time I get the following output :

Current time at \\DC1 is 3/10/2009 9:42 PM

Local time (GMT-04:00) on \\DC1 est 3/10/2009 8:42 PM

I tried running the net time /set command but no avail, it reverts back to 1
hour late. The time in the BIOS is correct also.
This causes Outlook scheduled meetings to be off.

Question is how do I change the GMT-4:00 back to GMT-05:00? I tried with
mutliple accounts on her computer and it comes out to the same results.

Thank you in advance for your help, because God knows I need it :)

Have all the latest Windows updates been installed (I see you said SP2)?
The Daylight Saving Time fix probably needs to be installed. The latest
Service Pack is SP 3 and should also be installed for security issues. Then
install all later fixes from the Windows Update site.

I am also experiencing the same problem with 1 of my users. I am in -5 GMT (EST) but it comes up an hour behind. I disjoined from our Domain to see if it was something with the Domain Controllers but that did not seem to help. With the computer disjoined it would sync with the windows time and be incorrect, even though it says it is correct.

While connected to the Domain a Net Time command returns

(GMT -4) and then shows the Domain Controller with the correct time. If i set the time to -4 GMT everything seems to be ok, but I am worried about meeting requests being wrong.

Windows XP Professional w/SP 3 and all available updates.

HI,

thank you for your reply.

I wrote an incorrect information.
The computer has Sp3 installed.

Alessandro,

I had the same issue. What has happened is your computer that you are trying to update never updated the correct daylight savings time settings. You can verify this by downloading Atomic Clock Sync.

http://www.worldtimeserver.com/atomic-clock/

Run that on your computer, and you should see a Daylight Time Zone Date of 3/8/2009. If it's another day (like 4/15/2009), you know that the DST wasn't applied correctly.

If that's the case, you will need to manually edit the registry of the machine in order to get the patch to take.

Use this link to MS KB in order to do that.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914387

Remember to change your time zone to a different time zone and then back again after to edit your registry.
I also restarted my time service just to be sure.

Hope that helps!

You are the 9th post that I see having the same issue on these MS newsgroup servers
after the Tuesday's Updates. I do not have an answer for you yet since we do not
know which Update has caused this issue of the time being off by 1 hr and no fix at
the moment.
I do not have XP loaded at the moment and cannot tell you the answer either . Might
want to check back in a few days and repost again explaining the same to the
xp.general and to the windows.update newsgroups via crosspost

Thanks for the help guys. I just used the TZedit and found that the time zones didn't take the update like what was suggested. A few clicks and a reboot and all is good. Thanks again.

Hi,

Ok, I finaly fixed the problem... or at least I thnk :)

It occured to me that another computer was having the exact same problem
except he had SP2 installed. To fix the issue I downloaded KB955839.
I applied it also on the Windows XP SP3 computer... but I taught that it was
included in SP3.

Yep, that is the time zone fix I mentioned in my previous post. Many people
have failed to do that update and are having the exact issue you had come
March 1st when the new DST went into effect.
