Wrong Names in Distribution List

T

tbo

Hi,

I have a strange thing happening. A co-worker sent me an email via a
distribution list I was part of. I added the distribution list to my
contacts. In the contacts area, the distribution list is exactly like
the one that was emailed to me, but when I use it in a new email
message, I expand the list; 3 names are missing and 2 new ones appear
(they are in my contacts).

Any ideas why this is happening, I use Outlook 2003?

You failed to state how this DL was sent to you. Sending an email to a DL of
which you are a member does nothing to transmit a DL to you. Finish the
story.

You need to quote the post.
You've posted no information.
No one keeps threads around this long.

Could you do as Russ asked, since he is trying to help you with an issue
from heaven knows when irrespective of where he chose to arise?

It was an attachment. I then click and dragged it to my contacts

You're right it doesn't matter where he woke up, he is rude and chose
the wrong career. Have you read some of his responses to other
questions?

No. I don't see the thread because it is over 2 weeks old and posts that old
are purged. That's why one normally quotes at least the portion of the post
to which one is responding.
DL's cannot be sent as attachments. To send a DL you must insert it as an
Outlook Item in a messages in RTF format. Then to put it in your Contacts
Folder, you just open it and save it, don't drag it.

Yes, I have read almost all of his responses - never rude, just telling the
posters that they have not provided any useful information and telling them
to do so. As for the wrong profession, ROTFL!

You really don't have a clue about usenet OR people's actual professions...
and I used to hold UCB in high regard. Tsk.

Hi Russ,

You can put a distribution list into an email by dragging it. Open
Contacts and drag the DL into the body of the new message, it will show
as an attachment. Do you have any ideas about my question, why is the
DL different in a message than it is in my Contacts, when I expand the
list in the 'To' field; 3 names are missing and 2 new ones appear?

Milly,
Please hold UCB in high regard again, won't you? I'm sorry, Russ just
reminds me of the soup nazi from Seinfeld.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. That's what I was trying to
explain. A DL is not a file you can attach to a message. It is a proprietary
Outlook Item that loses key properties when it is moved from its Contacts
Folder. As such, the only way you can transfer it to another Outlook user is
to use the method I posted.

I always liked the soup nazi by the way. If you saw me at work you'd see I'm
usually about as busy as he was so my posts are short, to the point, and do
not mince words. They will, I suspect, appear rude to those who are not
familiar with Usenet or realize that we are volunteers who do this on very
little free time.

My apologies, I see now. It just seemed like the user questions were
annoying you, hence the wrong career comment.

Thanks again, for the better way to bring in DL's.

Hi Russ,

Just chipping in with my 2 cents worth. I mostly lurk here, and have done
so for years. I very rarely need to post a question because of the superb
work you and the other MVPs do in these groups. Just want you to know
that I greatly appreciate all the help your efforts to help so many
people have been to me personally. Please, keep up the good work - you
and the other MVPs are worth your weight in gold, and we appreciate your
efforts.

Regards, Peter.
