installing win2000 pro over new mbo, hdd, ram &
processor. I get error "reboot and select proper boot
device or insert boot media in selected boot device."
tried our corp version of xp pro and booted/started
installin so I new the drive worked. then tried to
use "that" 2000 cd in another computerwith windows loaded
already and gave me the splash screen with the install
options, so I knew the disc was good.
intel board
sata 78gb raptor running in sata
3.0 northwood P-4
gig Crucial ram
lite-on cdrw (tried a different drive as well, same issue)

As soon as I boot after the bios it gives me the error
when I use the 2000 pro disc that was originally
installed in this machine.. As I was saying I put in a
corp version of xp and it wants to instal right away..
and when I put the 2000 disc in another machine (to see
if it is the disc itself), it starts to want to install
in the other machine (ofcourse windows is loaded on that
machine, maybe it wont do an install from a boot, i dont
know).

You mentioned a sata boot drive, when you install / reinstall you have to
install the sata drivers from floppy using the F6 option to install third
party drivers, during the installation of Win2K, if you miss this prompt the
installation will proceed, but the sys will not boot.
You will have to copy the sata drivers from yr mobo disk to floppy, they can
only be installed from floppy during the win2k install process.
You may have to set the boot order in the bios to boot from cd then SCSI
(Sata)
Winxp has sata drivers installed by default during the installation
procedure Win2k does not
Once the sys is up and running you should then install any drivers supplied
with yr mobo cd
