Wrong language (German) message boxes in Paint & Wordpad

I have an odd problem, the message boxes in Wordpad and Paint appear in German! i.e. the 'do you want to save your changes?' message appears as 'Änderungen in Document speichern?'

My regional & language settings are all set to English (UK) and German is NOT installed as a switchable language.

All my other apps are fine (including Notepad oddly enough) so i have a feeling i may have installed an app which overwrote a language dll or possibly a messed up registry setting.

Does anyone know which DLL it may be that i might need to restore or anything else to fix it? It isn't too much of a problem but it's just a weird niggling problem.

Any help appreciated.

I have the same problem.
Did you manage to find out what was causing it?

It's funny how it only does in some apps, I think Paint Shop Pro is
another one.

This happens if the file MFC42LOC.DLL is present in the System32 folder. To
resolve the problem, rename the file MFC42LOC.DLL present in the
C:\Windows\System32 folder (for Windows 2000/XP systems) and
C:\Windows\System (for Windows 9x systems)
