Wrong Instances of network cards!

Hi together,

recently I made a courious descovery. My XPe image detects more than two
(four) network interfaces although there are only two. If this
happens the network is not usable.

But first of all some information about my XPe image:

XPe SP1
Sandisk CF 512MB, EWF aktive on drive C:
Intel Dual Gigabit Controller (82546EB)

As said, my board has a Intel 82546EB Dual Gigabit Controller.
The chip has the device id of
VEN_8086&DEV_1010&SUBSYS_1011...
But sometimes the XPe image detects a VEN_8086&DEV_1010&SUBSYS_1010...
Only the SUBSYS_xxx string is different. But there is no device on the
motherboard with that SUBSYS_1010???? Why the hell is Embedded XP
installing /detecting that device??? Does anybody know how this could happen?

Many Thanks.

(This is only a quick guess)
Do you have firewire controllers in your system? If you have more than one
then each 1394 controller will install itself as a network connection as
this is the default behavior in XP Pro with 1394.

No, we do not have any firewire adapters. But I remember that we had the same
behavior on a XP Pro maschine. There was a 1394 instance although there were
no installed. I will inverstigate the relation of this both topics.
