I recently bought a Maxtor 300GB PATA internal drive and a hard drive enclosure. When plugged the external drive in, the computer recognized it but the size became 2094GB. I could partition the drive but could not successfully format it even if I had a 300GB partition. My XP version is SP2. Any suggestions? Thanks!

It was recognised as over 2094GB or MB? Was that in the BIOS or Windows?

I am 100% percent sure it shows 2094GB, not MB, not 294GB. My computer is Dell Inspiron 4000, PIII 800, XP SP2.

I did not use any special way to format it. Basically, I used Disk Management tool to partition the hard drive, then Windows formatted the partition automatically. It could go to 100%, but failed in the final process.
