Wrong drive letters for CD ROM & CD-RW

G

Glenn

When I installed Windows XP Home I had 2 hard drive with 2
partions on each windows assigned drive letters C:, D:, E:
and F: CD ROM was G: and CD-RW was H:, I deleted the extra
partions on the hard drives and was left with C and D
drives using the Disk Management feature I renamed the 2
CD drives E: and F: but when I open a program that
requires the Program CD it asks to insert the disc in G:
is there any way to correct this problem

You'll either have to reassign the drive their original letters, or
uninstall the affected program and reinstall

There's a utility included with Partition Magic (www.powerquest.com) to
remap drive letters after changes of this type. PM isn't cheap, though.

The free way would be to uninstall the program (game?) and then re-install
it to recognize the new drive letters. If it's a game, you can probably
retain the saved games.

Or, you could just name the drive back to G.
