Wrong Disk Size Reported During Setup

Stephen Saunders

I have a 20 GB Western Digital disk which I can correctly
partition with fdisk, format with DOS FORMAT. This drive
is recognized correctly by Windows 98SE and the Western
Digital diagnostics all show the disk is fine.

During setup of Windows 2000 Pro, Windows 2000 reports the
drive as about 2 GB and says that it is possibly
corrupted. The drive is on a separate PCI Ultra 66
controller.

How can I get Windows 2000 to correctly recognize this
drive?

My problem could be related to Paul Dalia's recent post.

Stephen

Hi Stephen,
Try creating and formatting the partition through Windows 2000 Setup, rather
than with fdisk / format.

Also, this controller may need an OEM driver for Setup to recognize the
attached disks correctly, if the drivers are not contained on the Windows
2000 CD. If so (you should be able to verify with the controller's
manufacturer), just place the driver files (sys, inf, etc) on a diskette,
press F6 when prompted at the beginning of Windows 2000 Setup, and allow the
drivers from the diskette to be installed.
