Wrong Default File Extension

Whenever I try to download a file type that my computer doesn't know it automatically makes it a MTPA file (Master Tracks Pro Audio, an old music editing program by Cakewalk Pro Audio that is no longer on my machine). I know there must be some sort of default setting someplace that controls this so I looked under Control Panel, Appearances and Themes, Folder Options, File Types and saw that the first item in the list of extensions is a generic document and the corresponding file type is listed as MTPA Document.
At the bottom of the window are the following lines:
Details for '' extension.
(between the apostrophes you would normally see the type of extension. This seems to represent a null set.)
Opens with: (blank space followed by a CHANGE button)
Files with '' extension are of type 'MTPA document.' To change settings that affect all MTPA document files click advanced.

I click on ADVANCED but nothing happens.
Does someone know how I might fix this problem? Also, does someone know how to get MTPA to disappear from the list of programs under ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS? When I try to remove the entry I get the following error message:
Unable to locate the installation log file 'E:\Program Files\Cakewalk Pro Audio\uninst.isu.' Uninstallation will not continue.

Thanks in advance to any helpful souls.

Getting rid of Generic Document:
--------------------------------
My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->File Types
Select the Generic Document at the top of the registered file type.
Hit "Delete"
Your computer should no longer recognize MPTA files.

Removing the uninstall info for the application:
------------------------------------------------
Run REGEDIT and delete the following key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Master
Tracks Pro Audio

Hope this helps
