Wrong default address

Paul

Hi wonder if anyone can help?

I have 3 e mail address's and one of them is my default address, which is
subscribed to a mailing list for my football team.

I get quite a few e mails on this list and often send to it.

For some strange reason tonight, when I try to reply to an e mail that has
been sent to the list, it tries to reply from one of my other e mail
address's rather than my default one. Yet when I do a new e mail its ok, and
creates one from my default e mail address!

Any idea how I can get it to create new & reply from my default address
again please?

Cheers

Paul

Windows Mail uses the default account for new emails.
When replying and forwarding, it uses the account that originally
downloaded that message. If yours is behaving differently,
it may be caused by an antivirus program stripping the account
information. Which antivirus are you using?

I'm using the new free AVG 8

It can only have come in by my default e mail address as that's the only one
subscribed to that mailing list.

Thanks for helping BTW.

Any idea how I check if it is AVG?

I don't have access to a PC with AVG, so can only talk in generalities.
Typically there will be an icon in the system tray (near the time) which
you can click on to open the program. Once open, there should be
something like Help, About..., that gives you the official name and
version number of the program.

If AVG was installed using the default install options, it has a
troublesome email scanning module. Uninstall AVG,
then reinstall using the custom install option. That in turn enables
you to deselect the installation of the mail scanning module.

I can't guarantee that procedure will cure your particular problem.
Your problem is very unusual. If all else fails to cure it, you
could try upgrading to Windows Live Mail:

Gary,
thanks for your help, but I think it's cured!

I found how to turn it off (thanks for your help below on this) before you
had chance to reply!

I tried that, but it still didn't work, so I removed the e mail acount that
seemed to be causeing the problem, which left 2.

Tried replying and sucess it replied using the default account!

Re-installed the offending account, replied to an e mail,. and it STILL
replied via the default account, problem solved!!

Not sure what it was, but all working now.

Mail Live any good then?

You're right, one of the possible causes for that problem is a
corrupted account, the fix for which is to recreate the account.
The question remains, however, what caused that account to
become corrupted in the first place? If you haven't done so
already, be sure to reinstall AVG using custom install.

Windows Live Mail basically does everything WM does, plus
the ability to handle Hotmail accounts. It also has a few
improved features. The user interface is different, which
some people love and others hate. I like it well enough to
use it as my preferred email program.

Thanks for your help guys.
I couldn't get it to work, so in the end I resorted to wiping out the
offending e mail address, making the default one the only one, then putting
the offending one back. And it worked!!!

All is well again

I'm having the same problem with my new computer. I had to change from
Outlook Express 6 to Window Mail. I have 3 email accounts on Windows Mail
and when I get an email & hit reply, it sends it from my default & not the
email address it was sent to. This is creating a real problem for me. How
do I fix it. I couldn't really tell from reading the email chain.

When replying, Windows Mail normally chooses the account that
downloaded the message. Some antivirus programs strip the account
information from the message. Which antivirus are you using?

Also, to monitor this situation, add the Account column to what is
displayed in the message list pane. Simply right-click on any
column header, select Columns, and the rest is obvious from there.

It sends from the account that downloaded the message.
Looks like what you have is aliases for the same mailbox on the server and
the default account is downloading the whole mailbox.
