Writing to DVD

PLEASE can someone give me the correct information on how to write my WMV and other "movies" to DVD. I have added transitions, titles and credits as well as audio in the making of my movies but when it comes to writing them to the disc I either get an error message or improper format. I have tried through a few programs such as Sony Picture Package, Nero and Pinnacle and through my Record Now DX program but with this it will write to the disc but only as a data disc which will not play in a DVD player, I know when I copied a DVD it had to be in vob and ifo file format but how do I get my own video into this format?

Save the finalized edited project as a DV-AVI. From your DVD software
import the DV-AVI.... and tell it you wish to create a DVD. It will then
re-encode in the correct format and burn the DVD. In Roxio it's called DVD
Builder.

Which version of Nero are you using?

Nero 6 would not only re-encode your WMV file to correct format but also
make the vobs for writing to DVD. Make sure you have chosen a "DVD-Video" as
the type of disc to write. Note that vobs and ifos only apply to DVD-Video
format. The default option is DVD ROM (ISO) which is a "Data" format and
stores the files without any format change.
